The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. The rocks chosen are those of the correct sizes for the musculatory and nervous system and because they have been smoothed perfectly over time by the sea.

The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones are placed on specific points on the back, in the palms of the hands, between the toes in a sequence to enhance relaxation and replenishment.

The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation, calms the nervous system and relaxes the muscles.

Germa uses stones from Mana Bay Beach on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
